There was another accident outside my office window yesterday. This was about the 5th wipe out I have seen since we moved into this building.
The smoke from the Day Fire is evil! I can’t breathe very well and I need to be able to breathe, NOW! It is now way bigger than it was last week, over 108,000 acres according to CBS2.com. The smoke is blowing all over SoCal making it difficult to do anything outside.
The SoCal Cyclocross season is underway. The Prestige Series started yesterday under sunny skies in Fullerton, CA. I entered the Masters 35+ race and got skunked. This was not unexpected. I have been training for the last 6 months and still have about 2 to 3 years to go to get back the sicko speed I once had. The course was fun with a few fast sections and only 2 barriers with one small run up. This weekend the Urban Cyclocross 2006 Series starts off in Palos Verdes, CA. The course is tough with a big running section, multiple turns, slow stuff, and a fast downhill. Bring it on!
I went for an mtb ride on Saturday in the Santa Monica Mountains after the memorial ride for Tony Estrin. I did not know Tony but I felt it would be good for cycling to show up and support the cause. There was a huge turnout for the ride. I am guessing between 150 and 200 riders showed. 2 cops were there to escort the ride which was very cool. If you drive drunk prepare for the consequences. I have no pity for you.
Red ants bite. Yes they do. I stopped during my mtb ride to take a picture of a red ant hill that was very active. I put my backpack down about 20 feet from the ants and took a few pics. When I got ready to go I put my camera back in my bag and flipped it onto my back. About 10 seconds after I started to speed downhill I felt something light up on my neck. I was going too fast to stop quickly so I smashed the ant and kept going. I could feel ant parts squishing in my glove. It hurt pretty good for an hour or so. Now I have a big welt on my neck. Red ants bite.
Hmm, gravity takes over this girl’s big pole dance plans. Haaaaaaaaaaaaa
In case you were looking for a way to survive a long fall someone has detailed it.
