Yesterday at the Celebrate Downtown Lancaster event in Lancaster, CA. my buds from Bicycle John’s had a display set up plus a trainer bike thing that measures speed and watts, etc. They were having an hourly contest to see who could crank out the highest wattage for 60 seconds. I reluctantly hopped on and gave it a shot at the urging of my buddy Pat Hogan. I was going along over 600 watts until around 45 seconds. At that point the pain was coming on strong. I kept my focus and busted it up to 618 at 59 seconds. I then blew. When the “scorekeeper” checked my wattage it dropped to 587. Not bad I guess. With no warmup and feeling a little fried I guess that was good. Nobody came close all night or within the hour so I won a water bottle plus two packs of GU. Nice! That is the first bike related thing I have “won” in a long time.
I updated my mileage for the year. Not quite up to my lofty goal I set early this year. I am thinking I will over 2,000 and that will about do it. I have been running once a week for the last 3 weeks in anticipation of the coming cyclocross season. 22 days to go…
