On Sunday 7/25/04 I rode up Indian Canyon Road. This trail is pretty steep near the top so make sure you are ready for a good climb. Some spots were rocky and loose so it was hard to get traction. These spots were mostly in the last 1/4th of the climb. There is a really cool canyon that you descend into after a short climb at the beginning of the ride. I got to the trailhead early, about 6:40 am, so the weather was cool, the canyon was even cooler. About 70 degrees F when I started riding. If you are interested in riding this hit me up at deeporbit at earthlink dot net. (Anti-bot email spelling, think about it.)
This is from the top of the first climb about 1/2 mile from the parking area. You can barely make out my car in the lower right of the pic. Still getting warmed up so climbing a bit slow.
This is from about 1/2 way up. By this time I was feeling good and making progress. It still wasn't hot so that was a relief. You can see the trail in the lower right of the pic. It never gets any narrower than this. It is all forest service road. The lower half is very smooth with a few rocks here and there.
The is the view looking up the mountain from about 1/2 way up.
The view to the west from the end of the trail.
This is the view from the trail and looking north. You can see Agua Dulce in the distance.
Here is the shot out sign at the end of the trail. You can go right and bomb down to Soledad Canyon into Canyon Country or you can go right and climb to Mt. Gleason. The ride to Mt. Gleason would be very cool but it would be a long one. The ride across the ridge looks fun but after 6 miles of climbing my legs were done. This ride would be awesome as a campout ride to Mt. Gleason.
Looking southwest from a small rise at the top of the ridge.
Looking north over Agua Dulce you can see what I believe is part of the Tehachapi Mountain range.
This is a panorama that I created using 3 pictures. I have software that can stitch pictures together. In this case it came out ok. You can see the Antelope Valley way off to the right, Acton to the near right. The dark areas in the picture are where to software welded the images. This is usually not so noticeable. Later.
